Legal Gaps in Controlling Online Games from Abroad

Cross-border online games are booming in Vietnam, attracting millions of players but also raising serious concerns: violent content, unlicensed monetization, tax evasion, and potential money laundering. In this context, Phap Luat Vietnam hosted an online policy forum on “Legal Gaps in Controlling Online Games from Abroad.”

At the forum, Attorney Hana emphasized that the biggest challenge lies in the conflict between territorial-based laws and the borderless nature of cyberspace. She also highlighted the lack of a clear legal framework for virtual assets and in-game transactions, urging Vietnam to soon establish comprehensive regulations to both protect players-especially minors and create a sustainable legal environment for the gaming industry.
